From the city of Vienna, born on February 22, 1949, the pilot's career nearly ended after the serious accident suffered in the German Grand Prix 1976 at the Nurburgring.

According Lauda himself, he heard all around him who spoke during the first days of hospitalization, when everyone thought he was unconscious.

The sequels were deep in her face, which was disfigured, even after several plastic surgeries. His right ear was nearly all consumed by fire and partially reconstituted.

In the same year, Lauda returned to racing finishing second in the championship behind the Englishman James Hunt. The persistence, strength and willingness to Lauda was bigger than his scars and stronger than his burns, the following year he was champion of the world, leaving the tracks at the end of 1979 and returned in 1982 to win his third title in 1984
