Biodiversity
According to the Green Facts organization, biodiversity is the wide variety of life forms, animals and plants; which are found in the most different environments. It is understood that biodiversity is formed by living species that comprise plants, animals and microorganisms, that people from the depths of the oceans to the highest mountains.
According to Green Facts, "there is a wide variety of species within each community, habitat and ecosystem." If we analyze for example the trees, there is a great diversity of species. The same happens between viruses, fungi, bacteria, birds etc. If we take as an example the ecosystem of the Amazonia, how many animal and vegetable species living in a perfect balance. The Dimensions of Amazonian Biodiversity website informs us that the Amazonia is a giant source of biodiversity. Therefore, according to them, we can affirm that there is a diversity in this ecosystem, that is, we can use the term "the biodiversity of the Amazonia Forest".
Biodiversity and Sustainability
According to Chandler Grenaa's article for the United Nations Foundations website; "sustainability of a ecosystem is the ability to ecosystem to maintain their structure and function over time in the face of external stress, such as biogeochemical cycles, evolution, food chains and webs, population dynamics, succession." Therefore, it is understood that if an ecosystem is able to maintain its structure and function over time, even suffering external wear and stress, it is said to be sustainable.
According to Greena, sustainability is an indicator of ecosystem health. "The more sustainable an ecosystem is, the healthier it is because it is able to cope better with external stress." The biodiversity of an ecosystem contributes for the sustainability of this ecosystem. The greater the biodiversity, the more sustainable it is and the reverse.
According to the Lexicon of food, Monoculture is a system that compromises biodiversity, increasing the population of insects and decreasing the amount of wild animals.
According to them, "to remove a diversified plant area, animals also face problems, since they have difficulty in feeding themselves, finding shelters and, consequently, reproducing."
Lexicon of food argues that the diversity of life on our planet is fundamental to maintaining the basic systems of support for life on the planet and especially because we depend on the resources of nature to survive.
The Ontario Biodiversity Arborization Project (OBAP)
The Ontario Biodiversity Arborization Project (OBAP); established in 2014 and implemented in 2 years; is the largest reforestation project of its kind in Ontario, "developed for the sole purpose of hijacking greenhouse gas emissions and creating carbon offsets."
According to the organization that developed the project, it occurs along the corridor of Highway 11, starting near Powassan, extending north toward Kapuskasing, Ontario. "The project areas fall into the forest regions of the Boreal Forest and the Great Lakes of St Lawrence and contain an abundance of land that has been deforested for agricultural purposes but is currently fallow." The project to maintain these productive lands and the minimum of 150 hectares of this land have been
