This paper presents a current panorama of the physical distribution logistics and the influence that e-commerce has been exerting on it. Today, physical distribution logistics are a determining factor in companies’ competitive capacity. With the evolution of the Internet, commerce sites began to bloom, and the need to offer something extra became a key point. Certain aspects, such as security, trustworthiness, and speedy delivery, are some of the important plusses that e-commerce sites can offer their clients, and the role of distribution logistics is fundamental to the success of these services. E-commerce also influences the way companies specialized in delegating deliveries work.

As a case study, we visited Submarino.com, currently the largest e-commerce company in Brazil. All aspects involving this company’s logistics are explained.

The evolution of their logistics, their concepts, their importance, and infrastructure problems in Brazil are also covered, as well as precious information about how certain types of logistic services work.
