Kidnapping occurs when a person against his will is taken to a place in circumstances where the person so kidnapped not have freedom of movement, will, or decision through violence, force, threat or intimidation. Usually occurs in the kidnapping other related criminal acts, such as keeping the person for ransom, sexual or sadistic abuse, or rape. It includes taking due to irresistible impulse. A crime is included false imprisonment. Any damage to the victim coupled with kidnapping can raise the level of crime and injury can result to the death penalty to crimes in some states, even if the victim survives. Originally meant the theft of children, since "kid" is child in Scandinavian languages, but now applies to adults as well.

The Lightning Kidnapping is a crime in which the victim is usually sequestered in your vehicle is kept for a short time, usually a few hours, under control bandit. Normally the time the victim is left with the kidnappers until they make purchases and take your money.

The case Eloá Cristina refers to the longest kidnapping false imprisonment ever recorded by the police in the Brazilian state of São Paulo.
On October 13, 2008, Lindemberg Fernandes Alves broke into the home of his ex-girlfriend, Eloá Cristina Pimentel, 15 years in the neighborhood of Jardim Santo Andre in Santo André (São Paulo), where she and colleagues performed school work . Initially two hostages were released, leaving the interior of the apartment, in the hands of kidnappers, Eloá and her friend Nayara Silva. On day 14, Eduardo Lopes, counsel for the kidnapper, started to follow the negotiations with the customer Actions Special Tactics Group (ETAG). In that day, Nayara Rodrigues, 15, a friend of Eloá was releasedAfter more than 100 hours of false imprisonment, police SWAT and Shock Troops of the Military Police of São Paulo blew the door - claiming later he heard a gunshot fire inside the apartment - and got in a fight with Lindemberg, had time to shoot towards the hostages. Eloá Pimentel, shot in the head and groin, did not survive and died of brain death.
