Introduction
Adjective is a word that modifies (give more information about) a noun or pronoun, the following work will talk about degree of adjectives where we a going to speak about comparative and superlative.
Adjective
Adjective is a word that modifies (give more information about) a noun ou pronoun.
Adjective is used in a sentences at two places depending upon the structure of the sentence
Before nouns.
After some verbs (after stative verbs like seem,look, be (when is used as stative verb), feel etc.
Superlative
We generally use superlative with “ the” before superlative and after it we use phrases like in the class, of the family, in the world that I know.
Comparative
Comparative is used to express characteristics of a thing in comparison between two things (only two things).
The word than is mostly used after comparative adjective, sometimes other words “to” maybe used after comparative adjective. See the following examples :
She is taller than Mary
A cup is smaller than a glass
He is junior to me
Chinese is more difficulty than English
Paris is more beautiful than new York.
Use of superlative adjective
Comparative is used is used to express characteristic of one thing in comparison to other things (many thins).
Superlative is highest degree of the thing in the comparison of other thing. A superlative adjective means that a object is suppressing all others in quality or character .
Eg: John is the most intelligent in his class. It means that john is surpassing all other students in his class and no other student in his class is intelligent as John.
Article “ the” is used before superlative degree.
In or of are used after the superlative and modifie nouns in sentences.
Examples.
Bills Gate is the richest person in the world
Brunel is the most beautiful hotel in England
Everest is the highest mountain in the world
She is the tallest girl in the class our generation is most modern
Winter is the coldest time of the world
Degree of Adjectives
The degree of adjectives is subdivided into:
Comparative- aims to compare the characteristic attributed to two or more beings or two or more characteristics attributed able.
Comparative of equality
Eg: Silvia is so pretty as her cousin.
Comparative of inferiority
Eg: Silvia is less beautiful than her cousin.
Comparative of superiority
Eg: Silvia is prettier than her cousin.
Superlative
The characteristic attributed by the adjective is heightened relative or absolute.
In the superlative relative, this intensifying is made in relation to all other beings set.
Relative superlative of inferiority
Eg: Paulo is less try family.
Relative superlative of superiority
Eg: He's the more questing for all students.
