Prova de Engenheiro de Redes

Keep in mind while the assignment below uses Cisco, we are not a Cisco

shop and expect you to be able to transfer your knowledge to other

platforms as needed. Lack of Cisco-specific experience is fine and

this assignment will be evaluated based on networking concepts, not

your Cisco

IOS configuration skills (or lack of). Hardware we use

includes Dell, Juniper, Cisco and Force10 and we use Linux on

commodity hardware for pure layer 3 devices.

Use GNS3 or Packet Tracer to implement a design for a

basic datacenter network according to the following specifications.

Follow good practises in designing the topology:

- One big layer 2 network, 10.101.0.0/16. It should have a top-of-rack

access switch in each imaginary rack, redundant distribution switches

in each row and a redundant core. Assume 3 racks per row and 3 rows.

Have spanning tree properly configured and select a good root bridge.

- Include a second little datacenter with it's own layer 2 network,

192.168.10.0/24. Just use one access switch there and nothing else on

layer 2.

- Each datacenter should have redundant layer 3 routers. The two

datacenters should then be connected to each other and each have a

connection to the internet:

internet <---> DC1 <---> DC2 <---> internet

The network as a whole therefore has redundant internet connections.

- Use OSPF to distribute routes and make sure all devices can ping all

networks and the internet.

- Extra credit: Have the border routers use BGP to advertise the whole

network to the internet. Create some upstream routers for them to peer

with.

- Decide yourself what devices to use for what purpose.

- Any network hardware or link except access links and switches can go

down without downtime for any server.

- Access link or switch going down only results in downtime for

servers connected to that specific switch.

- You only have to create one server per access switch, it is assumed

empty ports on access switches are filled with servers.
