Rather than discarding materials that had become unusable, I decided to turn them into something creative and serviceable, an upcycled bag. With some recyclable materials, I created a sustainable, useful, and very stylish bag, which can be used to carry your personal items when you leave your house or even carry groceries from the supermarket instead of using plastic bags. To make the upcycled purse, I used old jeans, the strap of an old backpack, a needle, thread, and scissors. First, I cut the old jeans to the perfect size for a bag, separated the strap from an old backpack, and then joined the jeans' part with the strap, sewing them together. In this way, I transformed materials that would be discarded into something new in order to minimize possible negative impacts on the environment.
The upcycling of materials in the construction of something new direct links to Chief Seattle's quote "The earth doe not belong to man, man belongs to the earth. All things are connected like the blood that connects us all. Man did not weave the web of life, he is merely a strand in it. Whatever he does to the web, he does to himself.", once reuse is one of the paths that man can take to maintain life on earth consciously and healthily. After learning Chief Seattle's speech, recycling took on much more meaning and importance to me because I gained the knowledge that the man who belongs to the earth, so we all need to preserve it to live. Besides, everything that man does with nature turns against him, negatively or positively, so it is necessary to take good care of nature so that humanity has a prosperous future. Reusing materials and recycling them is the healthiest way for man to connect himself with nature, because if nature is sick, so are human beings. Recycling materials became very important to me as I understood that this is a way to take care of our home, the earth.
