RACISM IN BRAZIL

The racism is part of the social structure in Brazil, sure, the main root for this prejudice is the time that slavery occurred in Brazil, nearly 400 years. And for this reason, bring the reality closer to white people with black people it's a huge challenge. In order to alleviate the problem, policies were created to combat black social inequality, one of which is the law that criminalizes race discrimination.

The controversial policy of quotas is another measure whose main objective is the integration of blacks into society. Many discussions revolve around this measure, some argue that students who enter a university through quotas lower the quality of teaching institutions. However, the opposite is noted: black students from the quota system are even more dedicated because they value being in a college.

It can now be said that blacks have opportunities that their parents did not have, which does not mean that they are equal to whites. In the job market, a black's growth outlook is lower than that of a white. Another factor that we must take into consideration is the data showing that blacks are more exposed to violence.

According to the study by the Brazilian Public Security Forum, analyzing cases registered between 2005 and 2015, 71% of homicide victims in Brazil are black.

It is still worth highlighting the stereotyping of the media in relation to the Afro-descendant characters, who are, for the most part, occupying the roles of bandits, slums, domestic and so on. This fact clearly demonstrates racism in Brazil, presented by the smaller opportunities that blacks have in relation to whites, this in all sectors, such as education, security and health.

Progress is visible due to policies that aim to promote racial equality. However, the need to expand measures to combat inequality is still evident. In addition to projects already in place, the government must invest in public elementary education, where most students are black. Schools and the media should make people aware of race equality in order to promote the integration of minorities into society.
