Roller Skating – A popular Sport

Roller skating is a very old sport and who has gained many fans and athletes. I chose this sport because I practiced for 10 years, but I had to stop because of pregnancy.  I’m in love with this sport. There are many colors and style, more attention because it is dangerous if you are not wearing safety equipment.

The origin of the wheels comes from skating ice and it has several modes like any sports. The skating was born around 3000 BC, proven through waste skates bones found in Sweden, according to historian Stefan Lovgren (2008). It is believed that the creation of skates aimed to cross frozen lakes with greater speed, according to Federico Formenti (2006), studies of development the on the evolution of locomotion on the ice, finding residues of skates made of bone to 1800 BC the Dutch were the first to put metal blades as the basis for your skates, around the fourteenth century, according to Mary Bellis (2008), writer on inventions.

The roller skates were recognized for the invention of Joseph Merlin (1760), Belgium. The first patent for roller skates, "four-wheeled" which were two to two parallel (traditional), was in January 1863, made by James Leonard Plimpton, who was also the founder of the first wheels Skating Association New York (NYRSA).

The patent inline skates was created in France in 1819 by Monsieur Petitbled, with in-line wheels that could be of metal, wood or ivory.

Robert Henley, nephew of Micajah C. Henley, who was one of the great men of skating, began placing the bearings in the skates around 1890, from the thought of bicycle bearings.
